Beverly Hills Rose Society Receives 2013 Glenda Whitaker Award

The primary mission of the American Rose Society is to promote membership and the joy of growing roses. Glenda Whitaker was a champion to this cause throughout her life. In recognition of her sustained devotion and support, the ARS established the Glenda Whitaker Award. In the world of declining membership statistics, it was inspiring to observe the creation of something positive which actually improved ARS membership at the grass roots level. The saga began in February of 2010, when Tania Norris ofHancock Park in Los Angeles gathered together some of her rose friends to suggest that they form a rose society in Beverly Hills. That faithful group metfordinneratthe Wilshire Country Club, and the Beverly Hills Rose Society was born. This pivotal decision mandated that the Beverly Hills Rose Society be an ARS Chapter with the view that new ARS members would be created. Chapter societies, unlike affiliated societies, are unique in that all local members must first be ARS members. This decision ensuredthat the Beverly Hills Rose Society would simultaneously grow ARS membership!
