Thyrotherm E38K is a modified H-11 type tool steel produced by ESR to improve toughness at extreme temperatures. Thyrotherm is a registered trademark of Schmolz+Bickenbach GmbH. Soft anneal 740-780 deg C (1365-1435 deg F), furnace cool 11 deg C/h (20 deg F/h) to 650 deg C (1200 deg F), then air cool to HB 170 max. Stress relieve at 650 deg C (1200 deg F) for 2 h, cool slowly to 500 deg C (930 deg F) in air to HB 170 max. Harden from 1000-1030 deg C (1832-1886 deg F). Hold at temperature for 30 min, vacuum quench at 27 deg C/min (50 deg F/min) to 535 deg C (1000 deg F). Then cool to below 65 deg C (150 deg F) to HRC 53 max quenched.
