Osmosis and thermodynamics

摘要

The van't Hoff formula for osmotic pressure, which is identical in form to the formula for ideal gas pressure, is a direct outcome of the second law of thermodynamics. The formula is derived by applying a closed cycle reversible and isothermal process, following an argument in Fermi's book on thermodynamics. (C) 2007 American Association of Physics Teachers.
