Investigation results of 'MSE type' VRLA batteries float-serviced in the field

The long life VKLA battery, "MSE", developed for stationary applications more than ten years ago, has been used by many customers in the various applications with good reputation. This article describes the investigation results of MSE batteries, which were well serviced in the field. Summary is as follows. 1) "MSE" batteries satisfied their life expectancy of 7 to 9 years in float service. 2) Failure mode of "MSE" batteries is mainly corrosion of positive plate grids. 3) The remaining capacity has strong correlation with the internal resistance of the battery. The internal resistance at the end of life becomes twice high as compared to a new one.
