In recent years, power supplies for communications that are decentralizedly installed in remote areas where maintenance is difficult to perform, or so called DC uninterruptible power supply systems for rural communications, call for switching power supplies that require little maintenance, and that will operate very reliably even under harsh climatic conditions. To satisfy these requirements, we have developed a switching power supply for communications that eliminates the need to change surge absorbing elements by making use of a commercial transformer for protection from a lightning-surge; and that employs a high performance chopper circuit featuring a high power factor and high output voltage accuracy, as a conversion circuit. This paper briefly describes our W series switching power supplies for communications with capacities ranging from small to large that we have recently completed with a full lineup boasting a variety of configurations.
