Dr Richard Clothier is the recipient of the Bjorn Ekwall Memorial Award for the year 2010, in recognition of his outstanding contributions in the field of in vitro toxicology, in particular with respect to the development, implementation and validation of alternative toxicity test methods, and for his substantial contribution to the FRAME Research Programme. Richard Clothier substantially contributed to the field of in vitro toxicology through the part he played in the development and application of alternative assays for replacing animal toxicity testing, such as the Kenacid Blue and Neutral Red Release tests for basal cytotoxicity, the Fluorescein Leakage assay, and the Alamar Blue (Resazurin) metabolism test.
