In this study, we examined the activation of water to which non-thermal energy was applied and investigated the effect of the treated water on plant growth. In the first report, in order to develop a more practical and effective water treatment system, the water treatment apparatus using granular ceramics was produced. The ceramics used in this system have a globular form with 2-3 mm diameter. Water was pumped into the fluidization layer filled with granular ceramics and then the fluidization and collision phenomena with the ceramics were generated. The change in the state of water due to the fluidization and collision phenomena was measured both physically and electrochemically. Also, in this study, wheat seeds was used as the test plant. The germination test and seedling growth test were carried out to ascertain effects of treated water on wheat seeds.As for the results of the examination, there were few changes in ion quantity and the electrical conductivity (EC) of water treated with the ceramics. However, the pH, the oxidation reduction potential (ORP), the dissolved oxygen (DO), the kinematic viscosity (KV) and the surface tension (ST) changed. Especially, the ORP decreased rapidly as compared with untreated water. As for the results, it was considered that the water treatment system using granular ceramics could change the state of water. The results of the germination and seedling growth tests showed that water treated by ceramics promoted the germination and early growth of wheat, and influenced the root part more effectively than the stem and leaf part of wheat.
