The WHO's Global Advisory Group on Nursing and Midwifery meets in Geneva: a report from AJN's editorial director.

The Global Advisory Group on Nursing and Midwifery (GAGNM) convened for its 12th meeting at the headquarters of the World Health Organization (WHO) on March 26 and 27. In 1992, recognizing that 80% of health care worldwide is delivered by nurses and midwives, the World Health Assembly passed a resolution calling for the creation of the GAGNM, a multidisciplinary group that provides advice to the WHO and member countries on developing and implementing nursing and midwifery programs and services. Members of the group are nominated by the six WHO regions, selected by a WHO panel, and appointed by the director general for a three-year term. The group also includes WHO advisors, representatives from the WHO Collaborating Centres and international nursing and midwifery organizations, and invited observers.
