The periodic data collection from digital sensors such as passive infrared (PIR) sensor and transmission to sink is important process in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) for home/building automation application. As WSNs are resource constrained, it becomes vital challenge to design energy efficient data aggregation and transmission approach especially for the multimedia information, for example, digital pictures and recordings. In this research work, the novel resource management and energy aware data transmission algorithms designed to minimize the energy consumption with optimum quality of service (QoS) called Dynamic power Allocation and Chain based Routing (DACR) protocol. First we propose dynamic transmission power allocation algorithm using the network connectivity parameter which helps to optimize the efficient utilization of the energy resources for data aggregation and transmission. Second, we design the ant colony optimization (ACO) based energy efficient chain formation algorithm to transmit the information from the digital sensors to BS. The following bounce for data aggregation and transmission selected by ACO ants based on energy needs and distance from the BS. While forming the chain, we apply the dynamic power allocation approach for the selected relay node in order to minimize network overhead as well as energy consumption. The simulation results prove efficiency of DACR protocol contrasted with condition of-workmanship methods.
