Highlights?MOF-ZIF-8 was loaded with Cu–Ni and used as a catalyst for synthesis of DMC via carboxylation of MeOH.?Synergistic promotion of Cu–Ni for direct synthesis of DMC was achieved.?The highest DMC yield and highest MeOH conversion achieved were 6.39% and 12.79%, respectively.?The catalyst can retain its catalytic activity up to 4 regeneration cycles.AbstractSupported bimetallic Cu–Ni/ZIF-8 metal oxide framework (MOF) catalysts were synthesized for the production of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) from CO2and methanol. The catalytic support material, zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8), was prepared by solvothermal method using methanol (MeOH) as a solvent and then loaded with bimetallic Cu–Ni catalyst (1:1 by weight) via an incipient wetness impregnation.
