A Candidate Vaccine Against Pulmonary Tuberculosis

The M72/AS01_E candidate vaccine against Mycobacterium tuberculosis is composed of a recombinant fusion protein, M72, derived from two M. tuberculosis antigens along with the AS01_E adjuvant. Previously, a placebo-controlled phase IIb trial was ? undertaken in three African countries on the efficacy of two intramuscular doses of the vaccine in preventing pulmonary tuberculosis in HIV-negative adults (aged 18-50) with latent tuberculosis based on a positive interferon-gamma release assay.
