Growth status, herbaceous production and litter decomposition of forest tree species in Madhav National Park of Shivpuri district in Madhya Pradesh were studied. To investigate tree growth and herbaceous and litter production, 10 plots were laid out.During this study, 493 trees of 17 species having average GBH of48.02 cm and average height of6.92 m were found in different forest types. The average GBH was 47.75 cm and average height was 6.86 m in September 2014, In March 2015, these parameters increased to 48.29 cm and 6.98 m, respectively. The herbaceous biomass and litter production varied from 9.54 to 12.07 quintals per ha and from 17.38 to 30.58 quintals per ha, respectively between September, 2014 to March, 2015. The association of tree species comprised of Anogeissus pendula, Acacia catechu, Boswellia serrata, Anogeissus latifolia and Syzygium cumini in Madhav National Park. The average soil moisture varied from 12.26 to 30.40%. The present observations may be used as baseline data for future monitoring of diversity in the study area. In order to maintain forest in the face of increasing threats, including climate change, invasion of weed species, etc., it is desirable to improve the understanding of the causes of poor growth of trees. Research and development action are needed to stimulate regeneration of those species which are having high importance value indices.
