Geoff Brandwood's Talk on Pub Ceramics in the North-West

A murky, grey and wet November day in Manchester proved an ideal opportunity to appreciate the central message of Geoff's talk, the importance of the pub in the late Victorian period as a refuge from dull care and everyday reality. A sizeable TACS gathering met in the large back 'singing room' of The Britons Protection on Great Bridgewater Street to hear him expound on the contribution of ceramics to the glory of the late Victorian pub in the North-West of England. It's unusual to begin an architectural talk with exhortations to drink as much beer as possible, but on this occasion it was important to show our appreciation at being offered use of the room free of charge!
