摘要

Multicore cables are used in numerous applications especially in the field of Geophysical instrumentation. Examples are Multi-electrode resistivity, Seismics, Ground Penetrating Radar instruments etc. Common faults observed in any wire/multicore cable are open circuit and short circuit. Manual procedure to check continuity in multicore cable is very difficult, hectic and time consuming i.e. it requires N by N combinations to test the continuity in an N core cable. Automatic multicore cable fault diagnosing system is a high speed embedded device designed and developed to analyze multicore cable continuity and faults automatically. AMCFDS is designed using PIC18F4550 & PIC18F452 microcontrollers which can find faults upto 64 core cables. This system can analyze the 64 core cable in less than 5 seconds in PC and less than 2 minutes in LCD. IRIS 96 multi-electrode resistivity 55 core cable is used in this study to test the system.
