Small Area Crop Estimation Methodology for Crop Yield Estimates at Gram Panchayat Level

Using the small area crop estimation methodology, two different types of gram panchayat level estimators of crop yield in the context of Rashtiiya Krishi Bima Yojana have been proposed. The proposed estimators utilize available data generated out of the General Crop Estimation Surveys as well as farmers' estimate of crop production as obtained through data collected from ten farmers each of all the Gram Panchayats in a district. Analysis of data obtained from a survey carried out on wheat crop in theBasti district of UP in the year 2000 revealed that both the estimators perform satisfactorily in terms of the criterion of percentage root mean squared error. The biases of the two estimators were also negligible.
