Contemporary Topics in Critical Care With Evolving Medication Management Considerations

Over the past decade, there have been significant advances in the care of critically ill and injured patients. Pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) variations resulting from acute organ failure, underlying illness, and supportive modalities make for complex pharmacotherapy regimens in this patient population. Critical care pharmacists need to apply their unique expert knowledge in managing drug dosing in critically ill patients with PK/PD aberrations, especially in patients receiving various forms of renal replacement strategies and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.
