Balanced Nutrition in Groundnut-Wheat Cropping Sequence

A field experiment was conducted to study the balanced nutrition in groundnut-wheat cropping sequence.The direct effect of balanced nutrition on wheat(GW-496)and its residual effect on kharif groundnut(GG-11)grown in medium black calcareous soils(Vertic Ustochrepts)was studied during 1992-95,in randomized block design with four replications.Moreover,the Diagnosis and Recommendation Integrated System(DRIS)was applied for developing N,P and K foliar diagnostic norms for groundnut.These norms were developed from data sets on N,P and K concentration(%)in groundnut leaf samples and corresponding pod yields.The results revealed that an addition of K in two splits(30 kg K_2O ha~(-1)each before sowing and 30 DAS of wheat)significantly increased the grain yield and the uptake of K by grain of wheat.The pod yield of groundnut as well as the uptake of K by pod and the net realization of Rs.9167 ha~(-1)(with CBR 1:21.8)was recorded with application of 30 kg K_2O ha~(-1)as basal and at 30 days after sowing of wheat to wheat only in groundnut-wheat rotation and identifies not only the most limiting element,but also the order in which other elements would become limiting.The diagnosis could be made for the deficiency of nutrients in the order of their requirements.
