摘要

Amount of potassium in the soil depends on the physico-chemical characteristics of the soil especially the soil reaction.It has been estimated that by liming of acid soil the amount of available potassium decreased from 400 g kg~(-1)to 200 mg kg~(-1).Acidification of soil increased the amount of available potassium when soil pH reached about 4.5-4.7 and decreased it when the soil pH was 5.0 or higher.The phosphorus to potassium ratio which increased to 3.3:1.0 in highly acidic conditions can be brought down to nearly 1.0:1.0,the most appropriate ratio for higher crop yields,with the help of periodic liming of soils.Normally under such narrow potassium to phosphorus ratio the response of crops to potash fertiliser is expected.The reduction in soil potassium content was observed under the effect of primary and periodical liming.Intensive liming increased potassium removal by crops as well as its leaching in the soil.
