Application of petrophysical methods to estimate total organic carbon in Lower Jurassic source rocks from the offshore Lusitanian Basin (Portugal)

Lower Jurassic outcrops in the westernmost part of the Lusitanian Basin (Sao Pedro de Moel area, Portugal) reveal three stratigraphic units with source rock potential: i) Unit F from the Coimbra Formation, ii) the Polvoeira Member of the Agua de Madeiros Formation, and iii) the Marly Limestones with Organic-rich Facies Member of the Vale das Fontes Formation. Despite decades of research, these source rocks have not yet been characterised in the offshore areas of the Lusitanian Basin.
