Lower Jurassic outcrops in the westernmost part of the Lusitanian Basin (Sao Pedro de Moel area, Portugal) reveal three stratigraphic units with source rock potential: i) Unit F from the Coimbra Formation, ii) the Polvoeira Member of the Agua de Madeiros Formation, and iii) the Marly Limestones with Organic-rich Facies Member of the Vale das Fontes Formation. Despite decades of research, these source rocks have not yet been characterised in the offshore areas of the Lusitanian Basin.
