Experimental study on the formation damage caused by gas fracturing fluids

摘要

Fracturing often results in a fluid invasion into the formation because the fracturing pressure is always greater than the reservoir pressure. The invaded fluid causes formation damage, oil permeability reduction, and potentially reduces production rates. We conduct experiments by invading gas into oil-saturated cores and vary the properties of the oil. We quantify the formation damage through pressure and saturation measurements. In addition, we model the experiment with a compositional fractional flow model, and the results show the formation damage caused by gas is cleared through dissolution transport. The results suggest that the time to clear depends on the fluid properties and the production rate.
