Editor's notes on special issue on “reliability and maintenance modeling with big data”

摘要

Modern technological developments such as smart chips, sensors, digital imaging, and wireless communications have changed many data-collection processes in reliability. The emergence of big data provides tremendous opportunities for monitoring, predicting, and improving reliability and lowering operating costs. The challenges faced by researchers in this area come not only from the volume of the data but also from the complexity of data structures, which calls for the development of new statistical methods and tools.
