Ethics Consultations Should Mirror Other Clinical Consultations in Accountability

Weise and Daly (2014) provide a useful spectrumof accountability of the clinical ethics consultant (CEC), ranging from restricted to unbounded. They argue for a position chiseled out in the middle, which they term "balanced accountability" (34). I posit that other clinical consultations have paved the way for CECs to follow, acknowledging that this perspective veers toward what the authors call an unbounded accountability model.
