The question of clinical science in public health emergencies (e.g., natural disasters, environmental releases, infectious diseases, and especially pandemics) raised by Edwards (2013) is a typical and especially interesting example of an unusual setting in which the ethical questions raised involve groups of persons rather than single individuals.
