摘要

It has been almost 20 years since micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) was first used to study bone (Kuhn et al. 1990). In combination with small animal models, including the mouse, micro-CT has developed into a very powerful tool for the non-invasivestudy of skeletal morphometry and composition. This atlas, by Bab et al., offers a comprehensive reference of the skeletal anatomy of the mouse as obtained by high-resolution micro-CT imaging and, as noted by its authors, improves upon existing skeletalatlases (e.g., Popesko et al. 1992). Unlike its predecessors, the Micro-Tomographic Atlas of the Mouse Skeleton offers both two- and three-dimensional descriptions of the internal anatomy of murine bones as well as the three-dimensional relationship among bones and articulating surfaces of multiple joints under different physiologically relevant configurations.
