The carcass meat content depended on the carcass weight (bxy = -0.487~(xx), r = -0.350~(xx)). A single crossing with Pietrain boars caused an increase in the meat content, compared with Polish LW purebreds, by about 2% (49.0 and 47 0% respectively).However, the lightest group of purebred fattening pigs (80-93 kg of live body weight) had almost the same meat content of carcass as crossbreds (495 and 49.6%). Standard feeding of breeding gilts indicates that this a method results affected a lower backfat thickness, in comparison with ad libitum feeding (18.2 and 214 mm respectively - P<0,01) Taking into consideration the relations between meat content and fat thickness (bxy = -0.800~(xx), r = -0.929~(xx)) the gilts fed by standard method had about 3%more meat content of carcass than those fed ad libitum.
