This special issue stemmed from a 4-year research project1 that focused on the roles of examples in proving and learning to prove. The strength of this issue lies in the in-depth account of various aspects of the project that could not have been presented and discussed in a single article. The richness of this collection as a whole is strongly manifested in several different lens through which the shared data was interpreted and analyzed. As Mason (this issue) writes in his commentary
