Chemical composition of milk collected from different nipples of sows and results of rearing of piglets

Nipples of the fourth (95.2%) and the first pair (94.05%) are the most frequently used by piglets, while the nipples of the seventh (15.48%) and the sixth pair (60.98%) are least used. The highest average daily gains of body weight from the first tothe 21st day of life were noted in piglets suckling nipples of the second (225 g) and the first pair (216 g). The piglets suckling nipples of the seventh (126 g) and the sixth pair (194 g) showed the worst body gains. Mean yield of milk from respectiveudders was calculated on the basis of values of weight gains of the piglets, in the course of 21 days of lactation. Sows secreted the highest quantity of milk through the nipples of the second pair (mean for 1 nipple 18.9 kg) and the first pair (18.2 kg). The lowest quantities of milk were secreted through the nipples of the seventh pair (5.7 kg). The milk from the nipples of the seventh pair was characterized by the highest dry matter content, protein and fat levels, whereas, udders of the second pairproduced milk with the lowest content and also the lowest energy value.
