Preliminary results of the vaccination/culling programme of the eradication of the Aujeszky's disease using deleted vaccine Tolvid R

An attenuated live vaccine Tolvid was used to eradicate Aujeszky's disease in a herd of 1700 pigs. 16.9% of 166 animals tested positive in gX-ELISA before immunization. All animals were vaccinated with 2 ml i.m. injection including pigs recently bought in after their serological status was established and own piglets at the age of 7 weeks. Reproductive sows were immunized twice yearly irrespective of the stage of pregnancy. There were no clinical cases of Aujeszky's disease 7 months after immunization and percentage of infected animals decreased to 9.3%.
