PRACTITIONER APPLICATION: The Association of Increasing Hospice Use With Decreasing Hospital Mortality: An Analysis of the National Inpatient Sample

Schorr, Angelo, LeCompte, and Dellinger hypothesized and confirmed a logical link between decreased hospital mortality rates and increased usage of hospice care. They also looked at mortality and hospice with regard to different chronic life-limiting illnesses and saw similar logical relationships. The findings by age, region, and type of hospitals also were interesting.
