East Ghana takes another exploration hit

Drilling in the east of Ghana look a further blow with Ophir's deepwater exploration well coming in water wet. While the Tano Basin in the west of Ghana has proven up billions of barrels of oil, the Keta Basin in the east is so far proving to be unimpressive. Ophir's Starfish well was drilled by the Stena DrillMax in the Offshore Accra block. It was drilled in 4,890ft (1,490m) of water and reached a total depth of 14,265ft (4,348m) sub-sea. Wireline logging confirmed the presence of a sandstone interval in the primary Lower Cretaceous target interval although logs show these to be water wet.
