The hunt for commercial oil off East Africa took another twist, with BG's deepwater well off Kenya encountering a hydrocarbon column in the main target with results currently inconclusive and work ongoing. The Sunbird prospect is being drilled on the company's Block L10A, although it also stretches into its neighbouring L10B where another well could be drilled later in the year. It is in 2,373ft (723m) of water in the west of the block and is testing a Miocene reef prospect that BG has previously likened to Indonesia, the first test of this off East Africa.
