Dofasco Steelmaking - Continuous Casting Oscillator Testing

Dofasco operates two continuous casting machines that manufacture slabs 216 mm thick by 740 to 1620 mm wide. The No. 1 continuous caster is a 2-strand, Mannesman Demag design commissioned in 1987 with a mechanical fixed stroke, variable-frequency mold oscillator. The No. 2 continuous caster is a single-strand, Voest-Alpine design commissioned in 1997 with an hydraulic oscillator table with variable stroke, frequency and pattern. Both machines are required to produce slabs to meet demanding customer quality needs and maximize productivity by minimizing downtime.
