Crop stability of bivoltine hybrids in the field is a major challenge to establish sericulture as an economicenterprise in the North Western India. At present two cocoon crop are conducted at farmer’s level as economic activity i.e.Spring and Autumn of which spring crop is dominant crop and constitute about 80% of the cocoon production in North Westernregion of India. However in spite of having most favorable condition for silkworm rearing during spring crop cocoon productionat sericulture farmers level is not at par to its potential. In order to overcome this situation a study was taken up at RegionalSericultural Research Station, Jammu to assess the potentiality of developed bivoltine hybrids under sub tropical laboratoryconditions and also to screen out best performing silkworm bivoltine for spring crop in the sericulture regions of North WestIndia. In the present study, nine bivoltine hybrids procured from different sericulture institutes of India were assessed for theirvarious economic traits under Sub Tropical condition of Jammu for selection of suitable hybrids for spring rearing in 2018Ninehybrids was reared and brushed on 05.03.2018 the traditional date of brushing in subtropical areas, in series of hybridevaluation for different cocoon crops in the regions. According to evaluation index for the hybrids analyzed for desired economicparameters both quantity and quality, the hybrids showing the index value above 50 were shortlisted as FC 1 ×FC 2 , FC 3 ×FC 4 ,SH 6 ×NB 4 D 2 and PM×FC 2 . The study mainly conducted for selection of better hybrid during spring season for successful harvestof the cocoon crop.
