U. S. Steel Corp.'s Board of Directors elected Gretchen R. Haggerty to Senior Vice President and Treasurer and Larry G. Schultz to Vice President and Controller. Both executive financial positions report directly to John P. Surma, Vice Chairman and CFO of U.S. Steel. Gretchen Haggerty is a native of Pittsburgh. She earned a B.S. in Accounting from Case Western University and a J.D. from Duquesne University. After joining U.S. Steel's tax division in 1976, Haggerty held posts there and in the audit division and financial department. In 1985, she was appointed Director-Plant and General Accounting for the former USS Chemicals Division. The next year, she returned to the tax division, where she was appointed Director-Taxes, Energy, in 1987. Haggerty was named Assistant Treasurer-Corporate Finance in 1988, appointed Assistant Comptroller-Corporate Accounting in 1989, and elected Vice President-Accounting and Finance for U.S. Steel in 1998. In Jan. 2002, she was named Senior Vice President and Controller of U.S. Steel Corp.
