U. S. Steel, Gary Works, has greatly increased its capability to supply the automobile industry with much improved grades of steel. The benefits of the new equipment installed included:Accurate control of temperature, carbon and nitrogen at the Q-BOP furnace.Improved operation of the RH degasser in attaining ultralow carbon and controlling temperature for casting.Reasonable degassing time at the RH degasser.Reliable and timely analysis of ultralow carbon and nitrogen steels.Fewer downgrades and reapplication of heats.Faster heats at the Q-BOP.Improved operator safety.
