Distinguished contribution to Family Nursing Award 2011: Lawrence H. Ganong, PhD.

Dr. Larry Ganong is a professor of nursing and professor and co-chair of the Department Human Development and Family Studies, University of Missouri, Columbia, USA. His thoughtful scholarship has challenged the status quo of family science and nursing research of families particularly in the areas of structurally diverse families, life-course research, and family as the unit of analysis. His application of family research methods has also sensitively spanned diverse illness groups including cystic fibrosis, oncology, and diabetes. Thirty plus years of collaboration with his marital partner, Dr. Marilyn Coleman, has richly contributed to new knowledge about remarriage and stepfamily relationships across the life course. Dr. Ganong's work is extensively used by family nurse researchers and other scientists studying complex family relationships.
