This paper is focused on the dynamic response of the structure protected by an explosion-proof dike. The hydrocode LS-DYNA is employed to model the shock wave propagation before and after the dike. The dynamic behavior of structure under shock wave behind the explosion-proof dike is studied numerically to analyze the blast wave attenuation. Firstly, the characteristics of the shock wave propagation are modeled and compared with analytical results. A good agreement is obtained. Secondly, the propagation of blast wave before and after a dike is simulated. The area behind the dike is divided into three regions based on the peak overpressure of blast wave. The characteristics of the peak overpressure are discussed, respectively, in the three regions. The effects of the dike configurations are analyzed numerically. Thirdly, the dynamic response of the structures protected by the dike is analyzed under blast. The behavior of the structures located at different regions is compared. Besides, the protection capability of the dike is evaluated. At last, a simplified way is presented to model the blast loads at the right side of the dike. It is convenient to analyze the dynamic behavior of the structures protected by the dike. Results show that it is reliable to predict the dynamic response of the structure by employing the simplified loads.
