Preference, growth and development of Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L.) (Coleoptera: Silvanidae) on red, white and black rice in whole grain andflour form

This study was aimed to investigate the adult insect of O. surinamensis in terms of its preference to attack and lay eggs (oviposition), as well as its growth and development, on red, white, and black whole grain rice and rice flour. The results showed that the preference to attack on whole grain black rice was greater compared with the other feeds. Oviposition preference for all types of whole grain rice was greater than for rice flour. The population grew better on whole grain white rice than on red, white, and black rice flour, as well as on whole grain red and black rice. O. surinamensis developed faster on whole grain white rice, whole grain red rice, whole grain black rice, red rice flour, and black rice flour compared to white rice flour. Preference, growth, and development of whole grain and flour form of O. surinamensis are varietal.
