Saipem targets new early engineering and waits on Angola subsea

Saipem is setting up a new unit to work with operators from the early engineering phase and hopes to be awarded a subsea development in Angola shortly. The company last week outlined its project targets in Africa but also said that the longer than expected downturn means it is having to cut deeper than before. Five divisions will now be set up: the new Engineering High Value Services unit; Offshore Construction; Onshore Construction; Offshore Drilling and Onshore Drilling The new unit will start with 600 employees and chief executive officer Stefano Cao said: "we see an opportunity to work with clients from the very earliest phase of a project to reduce complexity and cost and better manage risk." It is a similar mantra to that from the likes of Technip and FMC, and Cao said the aim is to smooth the transition from FEED to EPCI and provide "fit for purpose solutions".
