BP and Maersk join for Angola FPSO plan

BP and Maersk are to launch a joint FPSO project for deepwater oil reserves off Angola after national oil company Sonangol told the pair to work together to reduce costs. The UK major has a host of fields in Blocks 18 and 31 that were supposed to be developed by a series of up to five leased FPSO projects but only two were sanctioned with the company struggling to make the others work commercially. One of those that was never sanctioned was Block 31 Southeast for which bidding was originally expected to start in 2010. The PSVM project was given the go-ahead in the north of the block but another 13 discoveries have since lain undeveloped on the acreage.
