BP reveals Africa project list with mixed messages for Angola

BP is to move ahead with a series of projects across Africa despite the current oil price fall although some of the major Angolan developments remain uncertain. The company highlighted its upstream future at a presentation in London yesterday. From projects currently in the design phase, it is expecting first output from the West Nile Delta Taurus and Libra fields off Egypt in 2017 following a final investment decision in the first half of next year and output from the Giza/Raven and Fayoum fields in the same project in the following year. In 2018 Zinia Phase 2 off Angola will also start up. Projects under appraisal for the same time frame include Dalia 1B off Angola and East Nile Delta off Egypt. However, the major Block 18 PCC and Block 31 SE FPSO projects off Angola, which have already been delayed for several years with rumours of uncommerciality, are mentioned only as being "in the pipeline" to 2020 and beyond - they are not included in the timetable for first production by 2020.
