Total's giant deepwater Egina development off Nigeria is finally going ahead after the board of NNPC gave the company approval to award contracts - although there has been a late turn around in the FPSO winner. The US $12 Bn project has faced lengthy delays but senior sources say the French operator finally gained NNPC approval earlier this month after significantly reducing costs, although this meant it was forced to go with the cheaper Samsung Heavy Industries bid for the FPSO rather than its preferred pairing of Hyundai Heavy Industries/Doris.
