Sonangol gets DSME drillships but Chinese bankers to visit

A deal has been cut that will see Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) deliver the two drillships to Sonangol ordered back in 2013 by the end of next month. The US $1.24 Bn contract for the two rigs, the Sonangol Libongos and the Sonangol Quenguela, originally saw one being delivered in late 2015 and the other in the first quarter of this year. The delivery dates were continually delayed as the cash-starved state-owned company was unable to pay as the Norwegian Guarantee Institute for Export Credits refused to guarantee the loan following the sharp fall in oil prices.
