Pyrometer Instrument Co., Inc., Northvale, N.J., has developed a portable, quality-control digital thermometer, the Pyro Model SDT 141S. Housed in a rugged, shock-resistant cast aluminum enclosure, it is ideal for use in harsh environments. The thermometer has a temperature accuracy of +-0.3 percent; a large easy-to-read, 1/2-inch high CD display reads in degrees C or F, and incorporates 1/10-degree resolution to 999.9 deg F or C, and one-degree resolution to 2462 deg F/1350 deg C. The meter displays minimum, maximum and average temperature units for recording applications. The instrument operates via a standard 9-V DC battery. In addition, several industrial extension arm styles are available, including the standard 12-inch long rigid extension arm or the flexible extension arm for hard-to-reach temperature measurements. The latter consists of a 12-inch long rigid arm with a rubber-cushioned handle and 30 inches of flexible interconnecting cable. Both types incorporate a saw-tooth, adjustable angle near the end of the arm, enabling a 90 deg angle on the thermocouple sensor. The rigid extension arm is constructed from 5/8-inch diameter chrome plated brass tubing, and the flexible cable, from 1/4-inch diameter stainless steel. Th Pyro Model SDT 141S is available with a choice of 16 different thermocouples for portable temperature measurement applications, such as billets, molds, dies and sheet material in metal manufacturing.
