The Vortex Flocculation Clarification Technology and Its Application in Water Treatment

摘要

This paper focused on the micro-whirlpool technology and vortex-grid flocculation reactors, especially the vortex flocculation clarification technology (VFCT) based on the micro-whirlpool coagulation technology and the shallow tank theory. The VFCT had the following main features: (1) Different vortex-grid flocculation reactor combinations were used in the vortex flocculation reaction unit for influents of different water quality; (2) Inclined tube sedimentators were employed in the clarification chamber; (3) Low reflux or no reflux technology was used to lower energy consumption; (4) A thickener was added to help with the post-treatment of the sludge. Engineering applications showed that the VFCT not only increased the flocculation efficiency, lowered chemical use and improved water quality, but also increased sedimentation efficiency and the solid content of the sludge and lowered the cost of construction and water treatment. Therefore, it could bring about social and economic benefits.
