A Taxonomy to Support Team Coordination in Global Software Engineering Environment

The main purpose of this study is to classify the threats, issues, problems, challenges and concerns faced by the Global Software Development teams. To accomplish an industrial context transferability of theory into practices and to overcome explicit issues relating to global software management. Over the last few decade, researchers exploring the human aspects of global software engineering, many of whom, paid special consideration on Grounded Theory (GT) to solve the issues, concerns and problems that are of the highest significance and require immediate attention of the software industry. We adopted this (GT) as a qualitative research methodology to get information retrieval from 25 GSD practitioners around the 16 organizations working under the GSD environment and few empirical cases to evaluate our proposed taxonomy. In this paper three themes were recognized: (a) we first investigate the state of the use of the GSE jargon concluding that terminology is very diverse and occasionally confusing; (b) a comprehensive analysis of the state of used diverse GSE terms using (GT) to overcome the inconsistency or mutually exclusive meanings; (c) we present a three level taxonomy and results to illustrate through practitioners and empirical case studies. We believe that literature review and comprehensive analysis could be harder if terms are not well defined or standardized and especially when taxonomy is creating for new research paradigm. Yet, it appears reasonable analysis conducted for GSE by categorizing for the selected terms based on specialization relationships and illustrate how the taxonomy can associated with existing key concepts in global software engineering.
