Cluster-based Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) must be High energy efficient for various environments. To achieve energy efficiency for, the cluster-based WSN the cluster head (CH) and gateways (GW) must be selected efficiently and the communication (routing) path must be reliable. Mostof the previous cluster-based routing protocols the selection criteria for cluster head and gateway depends on the residual energy of the node. Only one metric alone is not efficient to select the cluster head and gateways for, the efficient cluster-based routing protocol. This paper proposesa new scheme path-aware cluster-based routing protocol. PCM mainly considers the residual energy and the novel clustering metric called the CTX (Capable Transmission and Reception count) to determine the eligibility of nodes for cluster heads and gateways to construct the efficient clusters.All the cluster head and gateway nodes depend on the CTX to determine its priority, and the node with, the highest priority becomes the cluster head and gateway. This new mechanism gives an energy efficient cluster-based routing protocol for wireless sensor networks.
