Energy Efficient Constellation Rotation for Multiple-Symbol Differentially Encoded Communications

Time diversity provides diversity advantage in fading channels. We make use of the advantage of time diversity in multiple-symbol differentially encoded transmissions. The time diversity is increased by rotating the differential phase shift keying signal constellation. We exploit thecorrelation between the phase distortions experienced by the consecutively transmitted symbols by processing the multiple-symbols with rotated constellation and interleaving. Simulation results show that the proposed Multiple-symbol differential detection with constellation rotation and interleavingachieves better Bit error rate performance than Multiple symbol differential detection without constellation rotation and interleaving. The best modulation strategy in non-coherent detection to minimize the total energy consumption is analyzed. The energy required to successfully transmita bit is reduced for proposed Multiple symbol differential detection system.
