Angolan Kwanza pre-salt gets gassier

Pre-salt drilling in the Kwanza Basin off Angola has been thrown into further confusion after ConocoPhillips encountered a gas column with its latest well. An ongoing major exploration campaign by a series of operators in the basin has yet to turn up the much hoped for pre-salt oil discoveries. Companies such as Statoil have already cut back on their planned drilling as they take time to assess early results. Fears that the basin may be gas prone had surfaced following Cobalt International's Lontra discovery in Block 20 which is in shallower waters neighbouring ConocoPhillips' latest drilling in Block 37.
