Automatics slip into reverse gear - First dip in automatic installation rate after more than a decade of unbroken growth

THE proportion of cars built in Western Europe with an automatic transmission has suffered its first setback after more than a decade of near straight-line expansion. Last year, the proportion of cars built with an automatic transmission in Western Europe dropped back to 26 per cent from almost 28 per cent the year before. That's the first drop after a dozen years of continuous unbroken expansion.
